Instagram accounts that gained the most followers in February

HypeAuditor has collected influencers’ and brands’ accounts that gained the most subscribers in February 2021 on Instagram.

Accounts are from 3 tiers:

  • Mega influencers: Over 1M followers
  • Macro-influencers: 100k-1M followers
  • Mid-tier influencers: 20k-1M followers

Mega influencers didn’t show any unusual results except rapper Bobby Shmurda. His account realbobbyshmurdags9 gained 4 Million new followers in February with the growth rate of 563%.

On December 18, 2014, New York City Police arrested Shmurda and charged him, along with several other members of GS9, with conspiracy to murder, weapons possession, and reckless endangerment. In 2016, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to seven years in prison, which was reduced to five years after receiving credit for the two years he already served awaiting trial. After over six years in prison, Shmurda was released from Clinton Correctional Facility on February 23, 2021. His release was widely celebrated across the hip-hop community and possibly became the reason for such an incredible growth of his account.

Most grown Instagram Macro-influencers

Top gaining macro-influencer in February was rapper and artist Chris Stowe who goes by his artist name “NatStar”.
His account @natsocold gained 412K new followers with growth rate 176%.

On the second place is tiktoker Oneya Johnson. His account @therealangryreactions gained 330K new followers with growth rate 166%. Oneya Johnson has created a hilarious brand out of screaming positive affirmations.

In late August, Johnson created the account on TikTok @angryreactions as a running joke and pseudo social media personality where he reacts angrily to other people’s content.

His first video instantly went viral. Johnson dueted user @bobbysrey’s cake-making video, in which they asked people to not be so viciously critical of her techniques.

Johnson filmed himself watching @bobbysrey’s video, angrily shouting things like, “Who’s being mean to you?” and “That cake looks good!!!”

His reaction video has now been watched more than 42 million times.

Most grown Instagram Mid-tier influencers

First two places in the list of top growing Mid-tier influencers are taken by Entrepreneurs Bryan Michael and Cristiano Piquet.

Entrepreneurs often invest time and money into building a huge social media following, that helps to develop their personal brand, drive new connections and build trust with their audience.

Cristiano Piquet is  a Forbes Real Estate Council and he lives an interesting Instgram life: takes part in Porsche GT3 Racing, spends a lot of time skydiving and surfing.

The main surprise among big brands is the rapid rise of Reebok. @Reebok gained 1.1M followers with the growth rate 36.7%.

It’s as if someone in the Reebok’s marketing department caught on and said, we urgently need a lot of new subscribers. need to devote more resources to instagram.

Reebok was mentioned 1567 times by 1035 Instagram creators in February. On 27 February it’s account gained over 800K new followers.

Top growing brand account below 1 Million followers is Trophyroomstore. @Trophyroomstore gained 239K new subscribers in February. TROPHY ROOM is an elevated retail boutique expression, inspired by the trophy room within the Jordan family residence.

Instagram account was mentioned 128 times by 102 influencers including sneakers influencers qiasomar, jumpermankris, bboylaspin.

@Shopacefamily is in the second place with 187K new Instagram followers.

Shopacefamily is a merchandise shop of McBroom-Paiz family. Prankster channel turned family vlog account. Their videos have earned them more than 19 million subscribers. They earned the Diamond Play Button from YouTube. 

Most grown Mid-tier Brands from the USA

Among the fastest growing brands’ accounts with up to 100,000 subscribers, almost all are small niche brands:

  • GarmaGuard is the first garment and fabric cleanser, using natural ingredients.
  • Asabu is bottles, coolers, and other drinkware manufacturer.
  • Jila Atelier Modern & romantic bridal gowns made in USA

Nba_topshot stands out noticeably against their background.

NBA Top Shot is a first-of-its-kind collectible game that allows people to collect, trade, and sell their favorite NBA highlights as digital tokens (NFT).

A non-fungible token (NFT) is a special type of cryptographic token which represents something unique; non-fungible tokens are thus not mutually interchangeable. This is in contrast to cryptocurrencies like bitcoin, and many network or utility tokens that are fungible in nature.

The NBA launched Top Shot in 2019, a marketplace for NBA highlight reels, which users can collect and trade through blockchain technology. It has since generated over $230 million in sales, with individual clips of LeBron James and Zion Williamson selling for about $200,000 each. 

NFT is now on the wave of hype, it is not surprising that the account got into the top ten, it is strange that it is not in the first place.
