Are you one of those businesses that do not advertise on YouTube because you skip ads too? You would be surprised that YouTube mobile ads hold viewer attention 84% times better than TV ads. YouTube is also the biggest search engine on the Internet next to Google. As a business, you can’t ignore the advertising opportunities on YouTube if you want to reach your potential customers.

Why Should you Advertise with YouTube:

These are the several reasons that make YouTube a desirable advertising platform:

  • Massive Audience and Reach

YouTube has more than 1.9 million monthly active users who watch more than 1 billion hours of video every day on YouTube. The reach and the time users spend on YouTube make it a suitable advertising platform.

  • Diverse demographics

While apps like Snapchat and Instagram have certain specific demographics using the app, everybody uses YouTube. Equally used by males and females, viewed in more than 91 countries, and used by all millennials/baby boomers/gen Z, YouTube has a distributed audience base.

  • Low-cost ads

YouTube ads have much lower cost-per-click (CPC) for their ads compared to many online ad platforms and traditional advertising. Also, you can earn with YouTube ads whether you have a low budget or high budget to advertise.

  • User purchase intent

68% of Youtube users say that they watch product videos and reviews on YouTube to help them make a purchase decision. In two years, 50,000 years of product reviews have been seen on YouTube. Hence, YouTube ads leave an impact on the minds of the consumers and help them make a sale.

Advertising Options on YouTube

Businesses can promote their products and services using various types of YouTube ad formats or by working with content creators. Here are the different ways to promote ads on YouTube:

YouTube Skippable Video Ads:

Cost-effective video ads that can be inserted before, after, or in-between the main video. These ads are also called TrueView ads and they can be up to 3 minutes long. These ads are skippable because users can decide after 5 seconds if they want to continue watching or skip. You only pay for the ad either when the user doesn’t skip the ad or watches it for at least 30 seconds or clicks on the ad.

When to use this ad format:

Businesses must create skippable ads if they want to focus on brand awareness and want to reach as many users as possible. Make sure the video has an impactful start.

Non-Skippable and Bumper Video Ads:

YouTube also allows advertisers to create non-skippable ads. You can either create non-skippable video ads that last up to 20 seconds or bumper video ads that last up to 6 seconds. Both kinds of ads are charged by cost-per-mille (CPM) and can appear before/after/between the main video.

When to use this ad format:

Non-skippable ads are a great option for businesses that can communicate their main message within a few seconds. If you can create a short ad that promotes your idea well, then this is your ad type. You can also use these ad formats for retargeting.

Display and Overlay Ads:

You can create these ads if you are not ready to promote video ads on YouTube. Overlay ads are displayed in the lower 20% space of the main video. Display ads are search ads that appear on the right of the featured video or above the video suggestion list.

When to use this ad format:

You can use display ads when your focus is on specific search terms. They are most useful when you want to promote on YouTube with image ads instead of video ads.

Advertise with YouTube Influencers:

Other than paid YouTube ads, businesses can also advertise with content creators and influencers on the platform. When advertising with influencers, you incur a one-time payment and there’s no limitation on the content and timing of the ad.

When to collaborate with YouTube influencers:

It’s beneficial to collaborate with YouTube influencers when you’re trying to reach premium YouTube customers. Premium customers use ad-free YouTube and cannot be targeted with the ad methods above. Also, influencers are a great way to promote your product through an endorser rather than speaking about your products yourself.

The statistics, numbers, and ad formats discussed above make YouTube a great platform to advertise and promote your business. As an advertiser, you should set aside a small budget for YouTube ads and experiment to see how useful they work for your business.
